GUN VIOLENCE PREVENTION

Gun violence is a public health crisis that is claiming lives, traumatizing communities, and leaving families to carry unimaginable loss. Elizabeth approaches this issue as a nurse and as a leader who understands that prevention is both possible and necessary. That means advancing evidence-based policies that reduce harm, keeping weapons out of the hands of those who pose a danger to themselves or others, and investing in community-based solutions that address the root causes of violence.

Protecting our communities should never come at the expense of responsible gun ownership, but doing nothing is not an option when lives are on the line.

What Elizabeth Will Do

Ensure Universal Background Checks
  • Close the gun show loophole

  • Ensure every gun sale includes a background check

  • Why it matters: 90% of Americans support this. It's common sense.

Promote Red Flag Laws
  • Allow families and law enforcement to temporarily remove guns from individuals in crisis

  • Prevent suicides and mass shootings

  • Why it matters: Elizabeth has worked in mental health settings. Red flag laws save lives.

Ban Assault Weapons and High-Capacity Magazines
  • Weapons of war don't belong in our neighborhoods

  • Why it matters: No one needs an AR-15 to hunt deer. But mass shooters use them to kill children.

Invest in Mental Health and Violence Prevention
  • Address root causes of gun violence

  • Fund community intervention programs

  • Why it matters: Prevention works.
